The Interlace apartment development has been named World Building of the Year.
The World Architecture Festival is the world’s largest and most prestigious architecture competition. It recognizes projects in a range of categories, including residential, cultural, health, infrastructure, and masterplanning.
This year, a Singapore residential apartment development, The Interlace, has been named World Building of the Year.
The Interlace is a series of 31 stacked apartment blocks plotted around a diagonally stacked, horizontal 'village', rather than stacked in a conventional vertical tower.
The 1,040 apartments have been built around eight courtyards, with gardens woven intricately into the design, providing opportunities for social connectivity and open space. OMA and Ole Scheeren were the lead designers of the development.
As well as being awarded World Building of the Year, The Interlace won the Completed Housing prize.
