This spectacular Noosa home is expected to be one of Queensland’s most significant sales for 2019. For sale by Adrian Reed and Darren Neal of Reed & Co. Estate Agents and Paul Arthur of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty.
‘Hayven’ is a commanding home on Noosa’s prestigious waterfront location The Anchorage, with resort-style features including two jetties, nightclub, a 25-metre pool, championship tennis court, and a guest wing with eight bedrooms.
The spectacular Sunshine Coast property is the holiday home of the late businessman Donald Hay and his wife Maribi and is a testament to their vision.
“The Hays were amazing pioneers,” said Paul Arthur, principal of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty. “And this comes through in this home, which is one of the premier properties on the Eastern Seaboard.”
Co-agent Adrian Reed, principal and founder of Reed & Co, agrees. “The house is quite a triumph, a timeless masterpiece,” Mr Reed said. “It is one of the most extraordinary homes to be built in Queensland, where attention has been given to every detail and decision.”

The home can sleep up to 32 guests, with a host of exceptional features including onsite caretaker quarters, maid’s quarters, grand master bedroom and family wing, media room, steam room, and 4-car garage. The family wing includes the extraordinary master suite which encompasses his bathroom and walk in robe, as well as her bathroom and walk in robe, with the oversized children’s bedrooms located behind.
Designed by architect Shane Thompson, the home retains a very human composition within its extraordinary scale, designed for the ultimate subtropical lifestyle. Enormous wide frameless glass doors, fully automated with a system imported from Switzerland, can be opened across the entire front so there is no separation between interior and exterior.
“Being commissioned to design Hayven was an extraordinary experience and opportunity,” Shane Thompson told WILLIAMS MEDIA. “It was the largest house I’ve ever designed.”
“The owners went to incredible lengths to build with an unusually high quality, and the scale, level of finish, and quality of materials used throughout is rarely seen these days.”
“While contemporary, the design is based on traditional large Queensland homesteads like Jimbor on the Darling Downs, while taking maximum advantage of its stunning site with a northerly aspect and very wide frontage to overlook the largest body of water in Noosa Waters.”
On the Hay’s instructions, the home is designed as a series of smaller areas, flowing together seamlessly to create a coherent and spectacular space, just as comfortable for two guests as it is 200.
“The scale really is beautiful,” Mr Arthur says. “It is unquestionably grand, but the flow is very functional. This home is designed to be enjoyed.
“Grand estates of this calibre, with so much attention to detail and quality, are timeless.”
“Despite its size it is really quite an intimate home, so beautifully thought-out. The more time you spend there the more you understand how brilliant the architecture is, where form meets function in a stunning space,” said Mr Reed.
“It is a home that rivals some of the great 6-star resorts around the world.”
With double elevation on the street side, the home has a formal, commanding, and private compound-style feel. Yet inside an enormous double story void, over a palatial living space, draws the eye out to the outdoor entertaining area, wet-edge pool, and the wide north facing body of water beyond.

Mr Hay’s sister, Juliet Hugo, said the sale of the home is bittersweet. “Donald loved that house,” she said. “He was very happy when he was there.”
“Every year he had a boys’ week, where up to 20 men would come and play tennis, golf, go boating and just enjoy each other’s company. We have had family Christmases, a 60th and other special occasions there.”
“When you stay in the guest suites, you have such a beautiful sanctuary, with your own library and cooking area. It’s just beautifully thought-out. As well as things like the tennis court and gym, he also created areas such as the Aussie BBQ area, a Teppanyaki grill, a breakfast area – all designed to be enjoyed.”
Mr Hay’s wife, Maribi Hay says while the family will miss the home, she takes heart in knowing that their vision will be enjoyed by someone else.
“Hayven is a place we wanted people to come and have a good time,” Mrs Hay said. “I hope the new owners enjoy the home as much as we did.”
