Meet mainland China’s most expensive house.
The name of the house, ‘Taohuayuan’, means Utopia or Peace Blossom Land, and it’s easy to see why. The 32-bedroom, 32-bathroom home sits on an island in the middle of a misty lake in China. It’s currently listed for sale at a whopping USD $154 million – or one billion Chinese Yuan. Historically speaking, only one property on Chinese territory sold for more – in Hong Kong.
The newly-built property, which took over three years to construct, is in the style of a traditional Chinese home with upturned roofs and a courtyard-style layout. Perched an island on the edge of Suzhou’s Dushu Lake, it is approximately 1.5 hours' drive west from Shanghai.
The photos show a sprawling, well-equipped compound with mist floating over water and rock gardens, luxurious interiors, and dramatic views over the lake. All 32 bedrooms face south, and if the number of bedrooms and bathrooms aren't enough, there’s also a pond, swimming pool, wine cellar, and spectacular gardens.
