Paradise City is a dual structured entertainment facility that will be the new centerpiece of Seoul's tourist hub in South Korea.
MVRDV are a Dutch architectural firm who are designing the entertainment center ahead of the 2018 Winter Olympics which will be held in South Korea.
The 9,800m2 complex is made up of two buildings the ‘Sandbox’, a retail outlet, and a nightclub. The nightclub will feature a ‘water club’ and rooftop garden. Both structures will be introverted, meaning that the building will consist of only a few openings and windows. The entrance to the nightclub will be boldly marked with a giant ‘blob of gold’ which visitors will also be able to see when flying into Incheon Airport.
The architects said that “The project takes two simple volumes, which create a new urban space…The buildings are opened by lifting them like a curtain, unravelling their interior.”
Future plans for this complex also comprises a casino, a hotel and convention center. Rotterdam-based MVRDV will complete the project in collaboration with Gansam Architects & Partners, a local architectural firm in South Korea. It is expected that the building will be completed by 2018.
