XTU Architects reveals environmentally friendly French Dream Towers project with algae bio-facade.
French Dream Towers, the latest proposal from French-based XTU Architects, features an interconnected four-tower structure with a facade of algae-coated glass.

Not the first project to incorporate algae into its design, Splitterwerk Architects and engineering firm Arup coined the bio-facade technology in their BIQ building in Hamburg, Germany. The Algae infused design was created to generate energy and provide shade to subsidise the building's power consumption; with the facade's main role including the production of hot water.

In a similar vein, the Hangzhou project's incorporation of this bio-facade technology will be to contribute to the building's environmental friendliness. Specifically as the algae-facade will assist in insulation, and reduce the building's carbon footprint by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
The organic-shaped high-rise building complex will pay homage to its architect's homeland by featuring four distinctly French inspired zones. The four buildings will comprise a French technology hub with offices and co-working spaces, an art centre with art gallery and artists' residence, a luxury French themed Haute gastronomie precinct and a number of retail and hospitality programs including a hotel.

The design of French Dream Towers will include a number of environmental aspects such as greenhouses and hanging gardens. The funnel-style central portion of the projects' design will encourage rainfall to cascade down the four-towers and through to the central point of the building to tie the development to the abundant presence of water in Hangzhou.
