Foreigners are allowed to purchase freehold property in Japan regardless of whether they live in the country or not.
One of Japan’s most beloved ski destinations is just a bullet train ride from Tokyo, and a coach ride from the 1998 Winter Olympics host Nagano City. The village of Hakuba is becoming increasingly popular with Australian holidaymakers, and sixteen furnished apartments are now being offered for sale.
Having hosted a number of Winter Olympics events, Hakuba is also becoming well renowned amongst ski enthusiasts for its competitive daily lift prices and affordable local food and drink, not to mention the high quality of the snow itself – considered by many to be the best in the Northern Hemisphere – which the village experiences approximately 12m of annually.
The apartments, part of the newly-constructed Koharu Resort Hotel and Suites, are being marketed by Dennis Kam from Accelera Management who says anyone captured by the excitement and romance of the Winter Olympics would be charmed by Hakuba.
“The village hosted downhill ski events and became home to a 120m ski jumping stadium which remains a major attraction,” he said. “Additionally, the natural hot springs, cherry blossom season and summer activities attract visitors throughout the year. Hakuba is historically a small farming village and is located along the ancient Salt Road connecting the city of Matsumoto with the Japan Sea."
The Koharu Resort apartments offered include six studio apartments, eight one-bedroom apartments, a two-bedroom apartment and a penthouse which have had great occupancy over the 2014-15 ski season. The 16 suites are being offered for sale in one line, individually and in any combination thereof. Foreigners are allowed to purchase freehold property in Japan regardless of whether they live in the country or not. The Koharu Resort, which contains a restaurant and ski hire shop, is located approximately three minutes’ walk to the Happo One chair lifts, in the same street as numerous restaurants, bars and a convenience store.
