The Melbourne home of former Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies has hit the market, through listing agents Andrew Harlock and Simon Curtain of Abercromby's Armadale, with hopes of $8 million plus.
The home, at 10 Howard Street, Kew is being marketed by listing agents Simon Curtain and Andrew Harlock of Abercromby's Armadale.
Owners Geoff and Anne Green have lived in the home of the former Prime Minister for the last 22 years - just one year short of the 23-year period Menzies occupied the home for, with wife Dame Pattie Menzies and their three children.
It's understood Australia's longest serving PM and his family moved into the five-bedroom Kew estate in the early 1920's, before selling it to a brother-in-law of Pattie Menzies in 1949.

"We will be sad to leave it, we've made some amazing memories here," Mrs Green, the current owner, told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
With a Georgian Mediterranean fusion "ahead of its time" when it was built in 1912, the home is set on 1,874 sqm and "provides superb accommodation for the modern family while sympathetically respecting its period origins".
The home boasts a formal lounge, library, and dining room, butlers pantry, grand reception hall, with original fireplaces and 12-foot ceilings.
The grounds of the estate feature an enormous "championship" size tennis court, a Tuscan style terrace, and Edna Walling style gardens.
Mr Menzies occupied the home before, during, and after his iconic term in office. It's been reported he used the home as an unofficial Lodge - the drawing room is recorded by historians as the scene of many significant moments as Mr Menzies penned his famous speeches, held the secret meetings that founded the Liberal Party, and while he ran the Second World War.

"There's definitely an element of 'if these walls could talk'!" says Anne.
Mr and Mrs Green consider themselves to be the "custodians" of the home. Mrs Green told WILLIAMS MEDIA they have done a bit of work on the home, but wanted to preserve as much of the home's history as possible.
"We have done minor renovations on the home over the years in the kitchen, bathrooms, and the garden. The goal was never to modernise the home - we have always wanted to preserve as much of the character of the home as we possibly could. There are marks on the walls that have been there since Menzies lived in the home - we've kept them there.

"A previous owner who grew up in the home came back once, and they remarked how it was exactly the same as when they had lived in it," Mrs Green said.
Like many of the previous owners, Mr and Mrs Green will pass on some of the memorabilia of Menzies' time there.
"There's a glass case that contains the drive shaft of a Japanese submarine that was captured in Sydney Harbour during the Second World War. It was given to the Menzies as a celebration of victory. It's something we feel should stay with the house, so we will be passing that along to the next owners," Mrs Green told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
Listing agent Andrew Harlock says he's never sold a property with so much incredible history.
"It's also a really warm, family home. The home has such an inviting feel to it," he told WILLIAMS MEDIA.

Mrs Green says the home is meant for a family.
"Kids should be running up and down the stairs. The home should be filled with laughter. Our children have all moved out, so now it's just Geoff and I. It's time for us to give this home to someone else," she said.
The Greens have plans to rent for a year while they figure out where they would like to live next.
"We certainly won't be buying a house as big as this one! We've lived here for the last 22 years and have been out of the property game, so we're not sure where we want to live next. It will take a while for us to get our bearings. But we'll definitely be downsizing, we've reached that point in our lives," she said.
Goldeneye Media produced the video marketing material for the home.
Tracey Atkins, managing director of Goldeneye Media told WILLIAMS MEDIA "the house needed to be celebrated".
"It's an important home, and it's a beautiful one too. It required a story that ensured all that provenance was portrayed, while still making it clear that as much as this is a place steeped in history, it also represents a great future for whoever owns it next," Ms Atkins said.

"We spent an entire day there - from early morning to dark, and it gave us goosebumps as we watched how the light moved around it and you really got a sense of the extraordinary lives and events that had unfolded there.
"It was wonderful seeing how all the families that have lived there since the Menzies have been such wonderful custodians. There are several significant pieces of Menzies memorabilia that have been handed on from family to family, and it really makes the home feel significant and very very special" Ms Atkins continued.
CoreLogic data shows the house was bought by the Greens for just over $1 million in 1997. These days, the value of the home is estimated to be around $8 million.
"The value of the home has changed drastically since they bought the property 22 years ago," says Mr Harlock.
The home will go to private auction on Wednesday 28 November.
"If it doesn't sell prior, I would be very surprised if the home didn't sell at auction," Mr Harlock said.
