A wedding venue built in the shape of a high-heeled shoe is an attempt to attract a female audience.
Looking a little like Cinderella's lost glass slipper, the 16-metre high shoe is built from 320 tinted-glass panels. The building is not intended to be a place for regular church services, but as a wedding venue and backdrop for wedding photos. The denomination of the unusual church remains unclear. The shoe was actually inspired by a local story. A young woman, so the story goes, was suffering from Blackfoot disease and had to have her legs amputated. She never married, and lived for the rest of her life in a church. Despite the sad tale, the shoe-shaped church is intended to appeal to fashion-conscious brides considering a wedding venue. The structure is located in Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, a popular Taiwanese tourist region. The response on social media has been mixed. "What do they worship? Cinderella, or Louis Vuitton?" said Elizabeth Thompson. "This is wonderful," tweeted #5NightsOfGlory. The church will open in February next year, in time for the Lunar New Year.
